CHELSEA LEGEND GETS SAUDI APPOINTMENT

John Terry, a former Chelsea hero, has joined the Saudi Pro League team Al-Shabab and is "set to make the first managerial breakthrough." The Sun claims that Terry was contacted by the Saudi club two months ago and that a verbal agreement has already been made about a transfer. A two-year minimum initial contract has been made to the 42-year-old, but should the arrangement be finalized, it might be extended to four years. The former England teammate of Steven Gerrard, who presently oversees Al-Ettifaq, Terry would join a number of other former Premier League stars in the Saudi Pro League.

John Terry1

After serving as a consultant at Chelsea's youth system this year, this would be the Englishman's first full management position. Chelsea will apparently permit him to quit his position in the youth setup for Saudi Arabia as a token of appreciation for the commitment and loyalty shown to the West London club over the years. Terry was one of just six players to play more than 500 times for Chelsea, winning five Premier League championships, as well as the Champions League.

Despite not currently being one of the top Saudi Pro League teams, Al-Shabab's ambitious owners perceive Terry's extensive playing background as a strong selling point for recruiting new players. Terry has experience as a coach and has aided Dean Smith at Aston Villa and Leicester City, but he hasn't yet been given the top position in England. If his coaching career is even remotely as successful as his playing days, Chelsea could contact him at some point. A transfer to Saudi Arabia might be just what he needs to get things started.

NOMINATIONS FOR BALLON D'OR 2023

OErling Haaland

Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi were all included on the list for the honor, which was earned by Karim Benzema of France last year. After being unexpectedly left off of the 30-man shortlist for the 2022 award, Messi, a star for Inter Miami, made his first comeback to the nominations. But this time, Messi has been chosen to compete for the award among the best in the world, and he will be trying to stave off the opposition to win his eighth Ballon d'Or.

Many have predicted that Messi will win the trophy in 2023 after winning the World Cup with Argentina in December and the Ligue 1 championship with PSG. He will have to work hard to defeat Manchester City's stalwart Haaland to the championship, though, as the Norwegian attacker had an outstanding maiden season in England.

Six of Haaland's City teammates were also included in the Ballon d'Or shortlist, including Kevin de Bruyne, Rodri, Ruben Dias, Julian Alvarez, Josko Gvardiol, and Bernardo Silva. After putting up strong performances throughout 2023, just three England internationals—Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Jude Bellingham—made the shortlist. Notably, Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, was left off the list for the first time since 2005.

The Portuguese football legend announced his retirement from the continent in December and has since spent the entire year playing for Saudi club Al-Nassr. On Wednesday afternoon, the nominations for the Yachine Trophy (best goalkeeper), Kopa Trophy (best U21 player), and Women's Ballon d'Or were also made public. Jude Bellingham, Rasmus Hojlund, Jamal Musiala, and Gavi, the Kopa Trophy winners from the previous year, were among those who made the shortlist.

WHY ISRAEL THANK SAUDI ARABIA?

After an emergency jet landed in Jeddah, Israel's Netanyahu expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia. Following an emergency landing in Jeddah on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu complimented Saudi Arabian officials for their "warm attitude" despite his nation's lack of formal diplomatic relations with them.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hosts a weekly cabinet meeting in his office in Jerusalem. On August 27, 2023, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hosted a weekly cabinet meeting in his office in Jerusalem. The Air Seychelles trip from the Seychelles to Tel Aviv was packed with Israeli passengers. Up until July 2022, planes to and from Israel were prohibited from entering or leaving Saudi airspace. This changed in time for US Vice President Joe Biden's trip to the area.

Due to technical issues, the Air Seychelles flight had to make an emergency landing on Monday in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah. The Israelis were rescued from Jeddah, according to the Israeli foreign ministry on Tuesday. In a brief video message, Netanyahu stated, "I greatly appreciate the warm attitude of the Saudi authorities to the Israeli passengers whose flight was in distress and was compelled to make an emergency landing in Jeddah." 128 Israelis were on board the Air Seychelles flight, according to Israeli media.

The Red Sea city welcomed them and provided them with lodging for the night. Even though Saudi Arabia wasn't one of the Gulf and Arab nations to normalize relations with Israel as part of the 2020 Abraham Accords, which were mediated by the US, rumors of a forthcoming agreement have emerged. According to those informed of the negotiations, Saudi prerequisites for progress on normalization have been discussed in talks between Riyadh and Washington. But after Israel announced a meeting between its foreign minister and his colleague from Libya in Rome, Israeli news analysts said that such attempts had been seriously undermined.

The decision provoked demonstrations in Libya, a country that does not recognize Israel, and it resulted in Najla al-Mangoush, the foreign minister, being fired. Without going into greater detail, Israel's foreign ministry on Monday denied being the source of the "leak" on the meeting between the two ministers. For the Israeli website Walla, expert Barak Ravid stated that the episode would discourage Arab nations from taking any more moves toward normalizing relations with Israel

The late Chief Gani Fawehinmi's (SAN) first daughter, Mrs. Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, made a plea to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday to do all in his power to advance the interests of the people. At the 14th memorial event for the late Gani, Fawehinmi-Biobaku made the request while addressing on behalf of the Gani Fawehinmi Family. The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organization (GAFAMORG) was in charge of planning the event.

"State Of The Nation, 14 Years After Gani" was the focus of the event, which took place at the Nigerian Bar Association's Ikeja Branch office. Fawehinmi-Biobaku said that Tinubu supported Gani's tenets, directives, and legacy. "I use this medium to appeal to President Bola Tinubu to kindly carry on the legacies of my late father because the president was once an activist," the woman stated.

We are fortunate with mineral wealth, therefore I implore Tinubu's administration to eradicate poverty and provide free public education and effective road systems.I want to talk with the president directly since I was present when he visited my late father in 2009 at his home in GRA.

"Now is the time to bring those promises to fulfillment because he was once on the street; he knows where the shoe pinches," he said, assuring my father that he would always have the interests of the masses at heart. She asked technocrats to work with the president to create the Nigeria that the majority of people envisioned. "If my father and my late brother, Mohammed, were here now, they wouldn't sit down and fold their arms.

We implore Tinubu not to forget the people, on behalf of my mother and the 14 children of Gani Fawehinmi," Fawehinmi-Biobaku stated. Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), the program's featured speaker, addressed the sub-theme "The Increase in Military Incursions into Democratic Governance in West African Sub Region: What Lessons?" Oyetibo voiced his displeasure with the military overthrowing democratic administrations in Niger and Gabon. He claims that a coup has no legitimate legal grounds.

AU SUSPENDS GABON

Following the recent coup, the African Union's Peace and Security Council announced on Friday that Gabon has been suspended from all AU operations. The AU said that it has made the decision to "immediately suspend the Republic of Gabon's participation in all activities of the AU, its Organs and institutions until the restoration of constitutional order in the country."

General Brice Nguema 2

Senior military officials in Gabon declared on Wednesday that they had seized power as a result of the illegitimate elections that took place in the Central African nation on Saturday. General Brice Nguema, commander of Gabon's elite Republican Guard, was chosen transition leader a short while thereafter and was in charge of the president's security. The African Union denounced the takeover and commanded the military to "unconditionally return power to the civilian authority, uphold their constitutional mandate, the principle of constitutionalism, and refrain from any interference in the political processes in Gabon." The military was also ordered to immediately return to its barracks.

The Council warned that failure to comply would result in required actions, including the implementation of specific sanctions against the coup's organizers. The UN, Nigeria, and France are just a few of the foreign leaders that have denounced the coup. The AU Council also called for the release of deposed president Ali Bongo, his family, and other government officials who have been detained since Wednesday's coup.

Since the coup, Mr. Bongo has been under house arrest. In a video, he is seen pleading with his pals to "make noise" for him.  The AU further stressed the need to ensure that all political detainees are dealt with by the legal system in accordance with the law of the nation. It also denounced "any politically motivated arrests in the circumstances."

The reign of Mr. Bongo's family in the highest office in Gabon came to an end with the overthrow of his administration. His father, Omar Bongo, served as president from 1967 to 2009, and after his death, Ali Bongo took over. After serving two terms, he was prepared to begin a third term following Saturday's election, which was largely seen as being invalid.

The AU Security Council requested that the chairperson of the Commission continue to closely monitor how the situation is developing, including by creating a monitoring mechanism that includes the AU, ECCAS, and other pertinent stakeholders, and to report back to the Council within 15 days of the adoption of this communique.   A month had passed since a coup of a similar nature had taken place in Niger. Additionally, the AU denounced the coup in Niger and expelled the West African nation from all of its initiatives.
