The late Chief Gani Fawehinmi's (SAN) first daughter, Mrs. Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, made a plea to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday to do all in his power to advance the interests of the people. At the 14th memorial event for the late Gani, Fawehinmi-Biobaku made the request while addressing on behalf of the Gani Fawehinmi Family. The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organization (GAFAMORG) was in charge of planning the event.
"State Of The Nation, 14 Years After Gani" was the focus of the event, which took place at the Nigerian Bar Association's Ikeja Branch office. Fawehinmi-Biobaku said that Tinubu supported Gani's tenets, directives, and legacy. "I use this medium to appeal to President Bola Tinubu to kindly carry on the legacies of my late father because the president was once an activist," the woman stated.
We are fortunate with mineral wealth, therefore I implore Tinubu's administration to eradicate poverty and provide free public education and effective road systems.I want to talk with the president directly since I was present when he visited my late father in 2009 at his home in GRA.
"Now is the time to bring those promises to fulfillment because he was once on the street; he knows where the shoe pinches," he said, assuring my father that he would always have the interests of the masses at heart. She asked technocrats to work with the president to create the Nigeria that the majority of people envisioned. "If my father and my late brother, Mohammed, were here now, they wouldn't sit down and fold their arms.
We implore Tinubu not to forget the people, on behalf of my mother and the 14 children of Gani Fawehinmi," Fawehinmi-Biobaku stated. Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), the program's featured speaker, addressed the sub-theme "The Increase in Military Incursions into Democratic Governance in West African Sub Region: What Lessons?" Oyetibo voiced his displeasure with the military overthrowing democratic administrations in Niger and Gabon. He claims that a coup has no legitimate legal grounds.
"I, therefore, urge our leaders to be accountable and be of excellent service to the nation," Oyetibo added. "The worst civilian administration is better than the finest military government. In his keynote presentation, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the chairman of GAFAMORG, thanked the late Gani for leading an honorable and brave life. He stated that Kaduna State would host the program's fifteenth edition. This would demonstrate that Gani belongs to all Nigerians, not only Lagosians, added Tanko.
