He was named Chief Security Officer in 1999 by Senator Bola Tinubu, the governor of Lagos State. He held various positions including Squadron Commander, Mopol 5, Squadron Commander, Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Fraud Unit, FCT Command, Officer-in-Charge, Administration, Lagos State Command Head Quarters, Ikeja, Area Commander, Osogbo, Osun State Command, and Area Commander, Gusau, Zamfara State Command.
Egbetokun earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Lagos in Akoka, Yaba, Lagos in June 1987. Prior to joining the police force, he temporarily taught mathematics at the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos.
His additional academic credentials include an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo, 2004, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, and an MSC in Engineering Analysis, also from the University of Lagos, Akoka, in 1996. Egbetokun, a 1987 University of Lagos (UNILAG) mathematics graduate, briefly taught mathematics at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos before joining the police. Additionally, he has an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo Olurotimi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, and an MSc in Engineering Analysis from UNILAG.
