Due to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's intended attendance at the Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact in France, Egbetokun was bestowed on Tuesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
This comes after a recent significant reorganization that President Tinubu announced on Monday and in which Usman Baba, the previous Inspector General of Police of Nigeria, was replaced. In accordance with the Federal Republic of Nigeria's Constitution, Egbetokun was chosen to fill the office temporarily awaiting his confirmation.
In his inauguration speech, President Tinubu stressed that security will be his administration's top concern, demonstrating his dedication to making security a priority.
“Security shall be the top priority of our administration because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity and violence,” Mr. Tinubu said in his inauguration speech.
President Tinubu has announced replacements for the army, navy, and air force leaders in addition to appointing Kayode Egbetokun as the new inspector general of police. The service chiefs have also been removed from their positions.
