When former president Olusegun Obasanjo encouraged him to change the nation's constitution while in office, the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) said that he nearly got hit. President Bola Tinubu's attorney before the presidential election tribunal was the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who was born in Ekiti. Speaking at Olabisi Onabanjo University's 32nd and 33rd convocation lectures, Olanipekun referred to the 1999 constitution as "fake" and argued for a complete revision.
He recalled telling Obasanjo, when he was the president of the NBA in 2022, to start the process of changing the constitution, but the former President disregarded his counsel and nearly used violence. Olanipekun called for the country's reconstruction and underlined the necessity of a humanitarian constitution. "A humanitarian face for our constitution is necessary. I'm a lawyer, but we are fooling ourselves; our constitution is phony, as I have often stated. Nevertheless, attorneys will be asked, "If we claim the Constitution is phony, why are we adhering to it?"

"As president of the NBA, I led a delegation of the association to President Obasanjo in 2022. He almost boxed me, saying, 'I'm here in Ogun State and I'm saying this, he's still alive.' He said, 'No you can't change it.' Mr. President, let us seize this opportunity to do it. Lawyers and judges apply the law as it is, not the law as it ought to be. So we apply the law as it is now and we have been pleading that we should amend the constitution.
"We also make an appeal to our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the powers that be, stating that if we do not restructure this country now, our children who are abroad may never come back," Olanipekun stated.
