Former governors Nyesom Wike and Aminu Tambuwal rekindled their spat in the National Assembly for minority leadership roles. On Tuesday, July 4, Senate President Godswill Akpabio unveiled the new leaders of the minority caucus, and both PDP chieftains were defeated. Despite attempts to outwit his political foe, Wike, Akpabio chose Senator Simon Mwadkon as Senate minority leader after defeating Tambuwal.

Senator Simon Mwadkon was elected Senate minority leader on Tuesday, July 4, after beating Senator Aminu Tambuwal despite valiant efforts to outwit his political adversary, former Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike. Wike and Tambuwal, who had been good friends turned adversaries before Mwadkon's appearance, were defeated in the game.
