A recent investigative investigation by the BBC on the alleged problem of certificate fabrication filed against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been cited by APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru. He said that after doing a forensic investigation, the BBC investigative team confirmed that President Bola Tinubu was a student at Chicago State University. The three-person BBC investigating team has proven that Chicago State University used multiple diploma types, he added. In a Channels TV interview, he stated, "I'm not sure if you've visited the BBC website today."
Dr. Josef Onoh, the former southeast spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has accused Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) nominee for president in 2023, of being a Cameroonian citizen with the first name "Siddiq." Onoh's accusation came after it was recently revealed that Abubakar's West Africa School Certificate has Siddiq as his first name rather than the more well-recognized Atiku.
After Atiku took his principal to Chicago State University for the President's credential to be authenticated, Tunde Rahman, President Tinubu's media aide, had questioned Atiku's certificate discrepancy. However, Atiku responded by defending his sworn statement that Siddiq Abubakar is the same person as Atiku Abubakar. However, Onoh entered the argument and stated that the real Siddiq Abubakar, whom Atiku claimed he had changed his name, is a Cameroonian, not a Nigerian. He further stated that Atiku was required to use the purportedly forged certificate and appear in person for an alleged affidavit in order to be admitted as a Nigerian to Ahmadu Bello University, ABU.
