OSINBAJO COUNSELS CHRISTIAN FOLKS

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, a former vice president, has urged Nigerian churches to emphasize the value of peace, productivity, and community development rather than riches and wealth accumulation.

At the weekend's 68th Anniversary and 58th Annual Convention of The Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT), Osinbajo expressed this viewpoint during a lecture. Speaking on the topic of the lecture entitled "The Christian Faith in the Political Struggles: A Case Study of Nigeria," the former vice president contended that a sizable section of the populace, especially the youth, has become alienated from religious leaders. They are looking for more profound and influential messages from the pulpit because they are obsessed with wealth and opulent lifestyles. He pointed out that churches have been engrossed in the chase of worldly gain and personal prosperity for far too long, ignoring the gospel's genuine mission of fostering harmony, peace, and the general well-being of society.

He said that church leaders need to go back to their roots and teach hard work, compassion, and community service if they love this country and want it to rise again. "For far too long, our churches have neglected the true calling of the gospel to promote peace, unity, and the holistic development of our society in favor of the pursuit of personal prosperity and material wealth," the speaker stated.

The church needs to go back to its roots and preach communal service, hard effort, and compassion if we are to see Nigeria rise again and realize its enormous potential. "Only by changing our perspective can we encourage our people to act as catalysts for positive transformation instead of just being recipients of the prosperity gospel." Osinbajo issued a warning, saying that when preachers prioritize incentives and perks, especially for Christians in positions of power and government, it taints people's minds and prevents them from acting morally.

He claimed that although many wealthy countries lack natural resources, poverty lurks in many others with abundant national endowments because people there do not follow the standards of productivity and hard labor. Osinbajo continued, saying that many of the European and American nations that the United States aspired to emulate prospered because of the real gospel of Jesus Christ, which was proclaimed from the pulpit, along with other virtues like diligence, production, integrity, and poverty protection, among others. According to him, a lot of preachers prefer to dismiss concerns about their followers' financial situation and instead credit miracles for nearly all unexplained money and riches.

"Propagating the correct version of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the major responsibility of Christians and the church, and it is that correct version of the gospel that has transformed other nations of the world," continued Osinbajo. "The gospel of Jesus Christ and the virtues of hard work, productivity, integrity, and protection of the poor preached from the pulpit transfer this nation," the statement reads. "The nations that we copy, the nations we want to emulate, the nations whose developments we have seen, the nations in Europe, the nations in America."

He emphasized that for Christians and the Church to have a significant impact on their countries, we must be careful about the lessons we teach. These lessons should uphold the values of honesty, diligence, and production while also showing compassion for the less fortunate and needy in our community.

KEKERE-EKUN TO BE NAMED AFTER ARIWOOLA

The next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) is expected to be Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun of the Supreme Court, barring any last-minute changes. Should Kekere-Ekun take office, she will be the second female justice in Nigeria to occupy the esteemed role, following Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, who served as CJN for 28 months, from July 2012 to November 2014. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who has held the position since June 27, 2022, will formally leave on Thursday, August 22, 2024, following his achievement of the obligatory retirement age of 70 years.

Lawmakers

Justice Kekere-Ekun is expected to secure the job because she is the most senior justice on the Supreme Court following Justice Ariwoola. The 66-year-old new CJN may hold the post for up to four years, as opposed to the two years that most of her predecessors did on average. Justice Kekere-Ekun, who served on the Supreme Court for eleven years, will take over as the country's next Chief Justice and be president of the National Judicial Council (NJC), which is responsible for selecting, promoting, and disciplining judges.

Born on May 7, 1958, Justice Kekere-Ekun earned her LL. B. from the University of Lagos in 1980 and her LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science in November 1983. July 10, 1981, was her call to the Nigerian Bar. She worked as a private practitioner from 1985 to 1989. In December 1989, the Lagos State Judiciary appointed her as a Senior Magistrate Grade II. On July 19, 1996, she was named a judge of the Lagos State High Court. From November 1996 to May 1999, she presided over the Robbery and Firearms Tribunal in Zone II, Ikeja, Lagos.

On September 22, 2004, Kekere-Ekun was promoted to the Court of Appeal, where she served in several Divisions and, in 2011 and 2012, as the presiding justice of the appellate court's Makurdi and Aku Divisions. On Monday, July 8, 2013, she was sworn in as the fifth female justice of the Nigerian Supreme Court, having been promoted to that position. She has won multiple commendation prizes and attended a great deal of classes and seminars both inside and outside of Nigeria. In addition, Justice Kekere-Ekun belongs to the International Association of Women and is a life bencher.

The president and judges have been the center of attention, especially since the nation reverted to democracy in 1999. The Supreme Court's succession dispute might be amicable for the first time in five years with Justice Kekere-Ekun taking office in a few weeks. From March 7, 2017, to January 25, 2019, Justice Walter Onnoghen was the Chief Justice of the Nigerian High Court. His departure was met with controversy, as he was accused of not declaring his assets. Judge Tanko Muhammad, who succeeded him and took office on January 25, 2019, essentially maintained the same course after being accused of treating them unfairly, especially when it came to their well-being by other justices. On June 27, 2022, he voluntarily resigned due to ill health.

The head of the government's judicial branch is the CJN. He is in charge of the National Judicial Council and the Supreme Court of the nation. Following Justice Tanko Muhammad's retirement on June 27, 2022, the departing CJN (Ariwoola) was named acting CJN. On September 21, 2022, the Nigerian Senate ratified the appointment. Nigeria's Supreme Court is the highest authority, and its rulings are final.  On the NJC's recommendation, the president nominates the CJN; the Senate must then confirm the nomination. According to the Nigerian constitution, the CJN can only be removed from office by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which needs the support of a supermajority of senators, or by death or reaching the age of 70, whichever happens first.

ONWENU NOT AN ORDINARY WOMAN: SUNNY ADE

In response to a question concerning his relationship with Onwenu, the singer said, "I can't explain it; you know if they give you the news of a loved one's death who has to do with your life and also your work." "She's not just an ordinary woman; she was someone who would sit down with you and she used to say, 'Can I chip in some advice?' and the advice was always correct," he said.

She used to be more active than I was; she was more involved in group music projects. It was always lovely when she would tap me and say, 'Sunny, let's take it this way,'" he said. The news of Onyeka Onwenu's death on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, rocked the country. She was supposed to have slumped after her performance at Stella Okoli's birthday celebration that night, but she inexplicably passed away.

After that, she was taken to Reddington Hospital by ambulance, but sadly, she did not survive. "It is very sad," stated an eyewitness at the party who told the newspaper that the horrible occurrence had occurred. Following her performance at Mrs. Stella Okoli's birthday celebration today, Onyeka Onwenu slumped. She was brought to

Reddington Hospital and she was unable to attend."

By attempting to improve their general health, nearly 15 million Americans might be jeopardizing their liver health. The degree of harm caused by taking well-known botanical supplements, such as green tea, ashwagandha, turmeric, and Garcinia cambogia, which helps people lose weight, has been made clear by a recent study.

Researchers studying health at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, examined data spanning nine,685 individuals from 2017 to 2021, and discovered that about 4.7% of US adults had used one of the six possibly harmful supplements in the preceding 30 days. Turmeric, green tea, ashwagandha, Garcinia cambogia, black cohosh, and red yeast rice were among those supplements.

The majority of supplement users were taking these botanicals for a variety of purposes, not because their doctors had prescribed them: red yeast rice for heart health, turmeric for joint health and arthritis, green tea extract to increase energy, garcinia cambogia for weight loss, and black cohosh to control hot flashes. It is important to note that the study only discusses green tea extract and not actual tea consumption (although a daily maximum of eight cups is advised; tea has no known link to liver damage).

Furthermore, although reports of liver toxicity linked to these supplements have been around for a while—including this 2022 study—medical researchers are worried that people may not be aware of the significant risk of overdosing and presenting to the emergency room as a result of these supplements. Over the ten years from 2004 to 2014, hospitalization rates rose from 7% to 20%.

A growing percentage of medication hepatotoxicity cases can be attributed to the use of herbal and dietary supplements (HDSs), according to the researchers, who were led by assistant professor of gastroenterology Alisa Likhitsup. Acute or chronic liver damage caused by drugs, commonly referred to as toxic liver disease, can cause yellowing of the skin, weariness, nausea, rash, itching, and upper-right abdomen pain, among other symptoms. Although it is treatable by eliminating the toxic trigger, if left untreated or overlooked, it can have fatal implications, necessitating a liver transplant for the patient.

The researchers are not advocating for abstinence, but rather caution among users about contents and quantities, particularly if they are taking a combination of herbal supplements and other medications to address chronic disorders, even though hospitalizations resulting from mishandling these supplements are increasing.

When evaluating patients with unexplained symptoms or abnormal liver test results, doctors are advised to collect a complete pharmaceutical and HDS use history due to the absence of regulatory monitoring on the manufacturing and testing of botanical products, the authors of the study stated.

"Considering the widespread and growing popularity of botanical products, we urge government authorities to consider increasing the regulatory oversight on how botanicals are produced, marketed, tested, and monitored in the general population." They further highlight the fact that there are discrepancies between the dose listed in a tablet and what is advertised on the bottle and that the regulations governing these supplements are less onerous than those governing prescription drugs. Furthermore, when these supplements are used at greater levels, there isn't strong evidence to support their benefits above their hazards, according to clinical investigations investigating their efficacy.

Naturally, safe dosages for each supplement depend on a person's medical history, current liver health, prescription medication regimen, and other ailments. Because of this, safe dose recommendations ought to be tailored to the individual.

The US Food and Drug Administration does not require human pharmacokinetic studies or prospective clinical trials before marketing, which means that the safety and effectiveness of HDSs are not well established, the researchers continued. The Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA), the Australian FDA's equivalent, released a warning in 2023 highlighting the possibility of liver damage from eating turmeric and/or curcumin. Although they issued a warning that severe harm is uncommon, the risk differed based on a person's liver function and capacity for absorption. For those who cook with the beloved orange spice, there is some good news: "The risk of liver injury does not appear to relate to Curcuma longa (turmeric) when consumed in typical dietary amounts as a food," the TGA continued.

TREATMENT FOR PROSTATE CANCER

What is cancer of the prostate? This particular kind of cancer starts in the prostate gland. A component of the male reproductive system is the prostate gland. It can be found beneath the bladder. The fluid needed to nurture and transport sperm is produced by this gland. As people age, one of the most prevalent malignancies is prostate cancer.

Prostate 3

A significant factor in male fertility is the prostate gland. The result is seminal fluid. During ejaculation, this fluid aids in the nourishment and protection of sperm. The health of a man's prostate, despite its tiny size, is essential to the overall function of his sexual system.

Prostate cancer is primarily found in males over 50, and age is a significant risk factor for the disease. - family history: men who have close relatives who have prostate cancer are more likely to get it—men who identify as African American run an even higher risk of developing an advanced diagnosis.  Unsettlingly, a UK study revealed that one in four black males may develop prostate cancer at some point in their lives.

Your Prostate and Genes Are Still Associated Prostate cancer is more than twice as likely to strike a guy if his father or brother has the condition. Furthermore, genetic alterations may take place and raise your risk.

Identify the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer In the early stages, it can not exhibit any symptoms and frequently progresses slowly. However, when the disease spreads, the following symptoms could also manifest: - trouble starting to urinate; -weak or interrupted urine flow; -frequent urination, particularly at night; -blood in the urine or semen; -constant pain in the back, hips, or waist area.

It is categorized into stages I through IV based on the extent of its spread; stage I is early and limited to the prostate, while stage IV shows the cancer has migrated to other bodily regions, such as the bones. Your doctor can decide the best course of treatment for you based on the stage of your cancer.

PSA TESTS: The PSA test quantifies the blood's concentration of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Prostate cancer can be indicated by high PSA values, however, other non-cancerous diseases such as prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can also cause elevated PSA levels. Consult your physician before taking this test, and avoid searching for the results online.

Your physician might then suggest a biopsy. Little samples of your prostate tissue will be removed during a biopsy, and they will be inspected under a microscope to check for cancerous cells.

Treatment Options It depends on the stage of cancer and overall health. Options include: - monitoring cancer (active surveillance) - surgery to remove the prostate - radiation to destroy cancer cells - hormone therapy to reduce hormones that fuel cancer growth, and chemotherapy.

Treatments for prostate cancer can lead to side effects like difficulty controlling urine, erectile dysfunction, and bowel issues. They must be communicated to patients beforehand

Although it must be difficult, many men go on to lead fulfilling lives following treatment. Make sure you have frequent checkups, a healthy lifestyle, and supportive networks in place.

These are a few naturally occurring foods that support better prostate health. taters Lycopene, an antioxidant found in abundance in tomatoes, has been associated with a decreased risk of prostate cancer. When it is cooked or processed, it has greater advantages than when it is raw.

Broccoli contains substances that could lower the chance of developing prostate cancer. These vegetables are nutrient-rich and beneficial to general health.

Verdant tea Antioxidants included in green tea, especially catechins, have been demonstrated to improve prostate health.

Seeds and nuts Good sources of zinc, healthy fats, and other nutrients that promote prostate health include walnuts flaxseeds, and pumpkin seeds.

fatty fish Omega-3 fatty acids, which are abundant in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines and have anti-inflammatory qualities, may help maintain prostate health.

Although it's not a proven cure for prostate cancer, a more natural diet can help treat the disease. Talk about your options and health with a urologist at all times.

A common ailment that many men experience as they age is benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.

What is benign hyperplasia of the prostate? Though it's not cancer, it occurs when the prostate gland enlarges. Men typically experience this expansion as they age. Squeezing the urethra, the tube that exits the body with urine, due to an enlarged prostate might make it more difficult to urinate.

Why does BPH occur? Hormone levels such as dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone fluctuate with aging in men. The prostate grows as a result of these hormones. Over time, the enlarged prostate may put pressure on the urethra, which could cause issues with peeing.

Mostly affecting males over 50 is BPH. Factors contributing to increased risk include: - a family history of prostate problems - being overweight; diabetes can damage nerves, impairing bladder function, and increasing the risk of prostate inflammation.

During a rectal exam, your doctor may feel your prostate by sticking a gloved finger inside your rectum. urine testing to rule out further problems PSA examinations To measure the prostate, use imaging procedures such as ultrasounds.

Options for Treatment Some non-pharmacological strategies are to: - drink less in the evening; - cut down on coffee; - cut back on alcohol uphold a healthy weight - keep an eye on your food and exercise.

Drugs - To make urinating easier, alpha-blockers relax the muscles surrounding the prostate. - 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors have the potential to gradually reduce prostate size. Keep your thoughts about these drugs to yourself; your doctor will take care of it. In addition to drugs, methods like laser therapy can reduce discomfort without requiring extensive surgery. -Surgery might be suggested in extreme circumstances.

Is it possible to prevent BPH? While it may not always be prevented, you can reduce your risk of having it by doing the following: - Engaging in regular physical activity Consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and well-balanced - Take care of chronic illnesses like high blood pressure and diabetes (always check) - Scheduling routine prostate health exams with your physician

THE BENEFITS OF DANGOTE’S REFINERY

The top 10 countries that import petroleum products from Nigeria's $20 billion Dangote Refinery include the United States of America, Spain, France, South Korea, Angola, Togo, Guinea, Belgium, Israel, and Singapore. This is happening concurrently with a vote of confidence in the Dangote Refinery being passed by students nationwide in postsecondary educational institutions operating under the National Association of Nigerian Students, or NANS.

Nonetheless, fuel oil, gasoline, jet fuel, and naphtha are among the goods that have been sent to the nations at various points in time, bringing in more foreign cash for the country.

Argus Group, United Kingdom, revealed in its presentation at a recent virtual event, Nigeria's Dangote Refinery - What it Means for Trade Flows and Price Benchmarks, obtained by Vanguard, that the refinery has altered the direction of petroleum product trade flows between West Africa and other regions while creating many new jobs.

Generating several additional benefits, such as employment. Nigeria will import 160,000 bpd of fuel, a 60% decrease. It stated that Nigeria's fuel imports are expected to decrease by 60% to 160,000 barrels per day (b/d) by 2025, from 400,000 b/d in 2023, due to the refinery's upstream construction. According to the prediction, Nigeria would only need to import 75,000 barrels per day in 2025 as opposed to 350,000 barrels per day in 2023. It also states that starting in 2026, Nigeria will begin importing more due to anticipated population increase and rising domestic demand.

From 2025, Nigeria will export jet kerosene and diesel. The Argus Group reports that starting in 2025, the country is anticipated to begin exporting aviation and diesel fuel, which will increase Nigeria's foreign exchange inflow.

"Nigeria's 650,000 b/d Dangote refinery has been ramping up operations since the start of 2024, including loading regular refined product cargoes, after years of anticipation," the statement read. The size of the refining operation will alter global product trade patterns and necessitate new price benchmarking solutions for the West African multiplier impacts, including jobs, in an area that has historically produced a lot of crude but refined little of it. Nigeria's net import position (short) will drop to approximately 400,000 b/d in 2023, while its net export position (long) will rise to 160,000 b/d.

There is still a shortage of gasoline, but in 2025 the nation will only need to import 75,000 barrels, down from 350,000 in 2023. But starting in 2026, the net gasoline shortfall is expected to increase once more, reaching 220,000 b/d by 2040.

In the men's 100-meter final, Kishane Thompson's foot crossed the finish line first, but Noah Lyles was given the gold medal. This is the reason. The men's 100-meter final on Sunday at the Stade de France was an incredible spectacle that left Olympic watchers in awe. At the 2024 Olympics, American sprint star Lyles narrowly defeated Jamaican sprinter Thompson to win the gold medal in a picture finish.

That's even though Thompson dominated the majority of the race and had the first foot across the finish line. But Lyles made a stunning finish by leaning with his chest in the second half of the race, pulling it back. Not the first body part to cross the line, but the athlete's torso is when the clock stops. In the end, the difference was that Thompson slightly rounded his chest, whereas the 27-year-old leaned with his chest.

Following the race, Lyles believed his competitor had done enough to take home the gold.

The American, who plans to compete in the men's 200-meter swim for gold, stated: "This is an incredible moment.

LADOJA lines up toward the rear. Nevertheless, a revision to Section 4 of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration, published in a gazette by the Oyo State Government and signed by Governor Seyi Makinde as of 2023, required the Olubadan king candidate to wear beads. "The person who may be proposed as a candidate by the Line whose turn it is to fill a vacancy in the office of the Olubadan shall be the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba in that line," reads Section 4 of the new Gazette.

Speaking, Ladoja claimed that both Ibadan and non-Ibadan people had pressured him to agree to wear beads as a monarch to clear the path for his eventual ascent to the throne. "With God's grace, I shall become Olubadan. God has shown me mercy. My blood pressure has remained consistent. Anybody who is meant by God to be Olubadan will indeed become Olubadan. No matter how many barriers they place in the way if God wills someone to become an Olubadan, he will. "I will do what the people of Ibadan desire."

God is the one who determines everything. several people have assumed the identity of Balogun but did not become Olubadan, and several others have assumed the identity of Otun Olubadan but did not become Olubadan. Kuye and Omiyale passed away 10 days apart. "The people's voice is God's voice, even though this is a difficult decision. The people desire that, Ladoja remarked in Yoruba.
