You have to be a con-man to successfully play politics in Kano.

And one of those who have been very successful in Kano politics is Rabiu Kwankwazo, former governor of Kano state. Also former defense minister and former senator. You can not be that successful in Kano when you don't know your onions. 

And he is the latest bride being sought by the President of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the later's bid for second term come 2027 elections.

Just like a Lagos boy, it's Kwankwazo's idea that a Kano boy can be packaged for the Asorock job. As part of his con series he presented himself as a presidential candidate in the last elections.

Of course his educational qualifications are not the requisite for elective positions in Kano state where we have had a stark illiterate become governor.

By being savy he has stayed practically at the top of Kano state politics, Kano state, which is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Nigeria.

Since the new democratic dispensation four people have been governors of in Kano state and Kwankwazo is the leader of two of them. Only former APC chairman Alh. Abdullahi Ganduje is not with him.

Though in the highly volatile political waters of Kano state nothing is permanent even for a short while, the front that best suit the political scavengers of Kano state is still Kwankwazo.

Ganduje appears a little bit too greedy and Shikarawu does not have the savvy to rival him unless he falls into unresolvable disputes, which are common in Kano, with  the political actors on the streets.

Though the governor of the state is his man, Kwankwazo knows that in the eyes of the street guys who are the real operators of Kano political set up the President will always be the highest bidder though could be very unpredictable.

Tinubu knows that if he can win Kano why should he leave the city to his opponents.

His search for a more convincing election results in 2027 makes Kwankwazo Tinubu's most soughted after bride.

There's a great deal of negotiation going on. Kwankwazo wants to be Tinubu's vice president in 2027 but the president is not convinced that is not too much for him.

The combination of former governors Shekarau, Kwankwazo, and incumbent governor with Tinubu's man Ganduje would have been the ace the president so much desires. But Kwankwazo's price is just a little bit too high.

For Tinubu, post 2027 is better left in the hands of present vice president Shettima who may proof the likely and worthier successor,and Tinubu knows when he sees one, than Kwankwazo whose loyalty can never be relied upon.

And there's always the gamble that Shekarau who had never been stable in his alignments, may not buy into the arrangement

But then Kwankwazo is surely biting the bait.
