Being preoccupied with his phone causes Gerard Pique to fall into a HOLE on a stage at an event, yet he escapes unharmed.
Tuesday night during the opening of his Kings League Americas competition, former Barcelona player Gerard Pique went down a hole beside the stage. Pique founded the King's League, a seven-a-side competition, in Barcelona the previous year, and he now wants to bring it to the United States.
Pique was there at the launch event, and after the presentation, he went to the side of the platform to meet and greet the audience.
When the 36-year-old went to autograph a fan's Barcelona shirt, he was apparently listening to a voicemail on his phone and didn't notice that there was a space between the stage and the barrier that was preventing the spectators from entering.
Pique thus stumbled into the opening and vanished entirely from view, leaving supporters nervously peering over the barrier to make sure he was OK.
Pique disappeared a few seconds later, and after falling around two meters, there were worries he could have suffered serious injuries. It is understood, meanwhile, that he was not hurt in the event. The World Cup champion has been in the spotlight a lot over the past 18 months since he and music singer Shakira parted up last year.
The pair, who are parents to two kids together, declared their split in June 2022 after Shakira accused Pique of being unfaithful. For more than 20 years, Shakira has been responsible for some of the world's most successful pop anthems, such as "Whenever, Wherever" and "Hips Don't Lie." While Pique's big-stage moment on Tuesday went horribly wrong, she is a great on-stage performer thanks to the dance routines that go along with her singing. Pique is now seeing Clara Chia Marti, a woman ten years Pique's junior. Pique ended his 15-year, trophy-filled career with Barcelona at the beginning of the year by retiring from football.
