The central council of Ibadan indigenes gave an award to the Algon chairman prince Abass Aleshinloye yesterday in recognition of his fight for democracy at the local government level among other things.
Aleshinloye who is also the chairman of Oluyole LG received the award from the Olubadan at a ceremony which was witnessed by all the LG/LCDA chairmen whose case before the Supreme Court will come up for hearing early next month and many other important dignitaries.
Conspicuously absent at the colorful event is the governor of Oyo State Engr Seyi Makinde who ordered that the LG be dissolved at the beginning of his tenure as governor of Oyo State. An action which is being challenged at the Supreme Court.
In a letter to prince Abass Aleshinloye the CCII noted that the Algon chairman is a hero and could be likened to ‘an Ibadan warrior’in his dogged fight for justice for the local government level
The ceremony which was witnessed by a throng of ‘well-wishers’ had the Olubadan in attendance and other notable personalities
In his speech Prince Abass Aleshinloye dedicated the award to his colleagues who are suffering the injustice of the state governor and to the memory of the former governor of Oyo State gov. Abiola Ajimobi who he claimed gave him the opportunity to serve.

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) is the apex socio- cultural organisation of Ibadan indigenes both at home and in diasporas.

Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye is a scion of the late Olubadan Abass Okunola Aleshinloye, the late Baale of Ibadan land who first bore the kingship title of Olubadan of Ibadan land, making him the first Olubadan of Ibadan land. Oba Aleshinlye’s predecessors had the title of Baale of Ibadan. This historic royal elevation was not accidental but borne out of unique royal heroism, popular leadership par excellence and unassailable integrity of Oba Aleshinloye, a wealthy king with remarkable administrative ability. The attributes for which Aleshinloye’s royal family is known till today.

Born on August 12, into the royal home of Olubadan Abass-Aleshinloye in Isale Ijebu area of Ibadan, Ayodeji started his primary education at Islamic Primary School in Olunloyo area of Ibadan and concluded it at St John’s Primary School in Ago Owu. His post primary education took him to St. Patrick Secondary School, Bashorun and Loyola College, Ibadan. He proceeded to the prestigious University of Ife now known as Obafemi Awolowo University (aka Great Ife) where he studied Microbiology and later had his post graduate programme at the premier university in Nigeria, the University of Ibadan.

*Work Experience*

As a talented multi-task young man with creative ideas for self-development consciously searching for knowledge and self-empowerment, Prince Abass- Aleshinloye got involved in other fields of human endeavour distinct from his microbiology and science background, this included education, communications, journalism, sports marketing, corporate relations, concept development, advertising, publishing and events management. He worked in the Concord stable owned by the late media mogul, Chief MKO Abiola as Acting Circulation Manager, African Concord, Protocol Officer and Liaison Officer, Concord Football Club, Lagos. He later became Marketing Manager, University of Health Science, Antigua (Uhsa), Africa office, General Manager, Tentacle Communications, Lagos & Ibadan, Circulation Manager, Sketch Press Ltd, Ibadan, Board Member, Oyo State Youth Development Council, Chairman, Oyo State Youth Development Council. Prince Abass –Aleshinloye is now the MD/CEO of Prime Reach Ltd, an Outdoor Advertising, Branding and Environmental Consultancy Outfit, Prime Reach Farm and Prime Reach School, Ibadan.

*Human Rights Activism & Political Career*

Aleshinloye’s activism and political career started in his student days at the Obafemi Awolowo University where he was elected as the chairman of his hall of residence, Adekunle Fajuyi Hall. In late 80’s, he became the president of his departmental association, Microbiology Student Association. That same year he was elected the deputy speaker and later he became speaker of the Students’ Union of “Great Ife” in 1990.

As a result of his progressive radical activism against mismanagement of the university system, and his anti-military struggle with other leaders of the union, he was expelled and incarcerated for seven months during the regime of Gen Ibrahim Babaginda; he and other illegally expelled and detained students were later released and recalled to graduate after intense national and global campaigns and free legal support by the late icon of Nigerian human rights / pro-democracy struggle, Chief Gani Fawehinmin.

The annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential election won by the late Chief MKO Abiola and the need to resist autocratic military rule brought Prince Abass back to the barricade with other prominent pro-democracy activists like Chief Gani Fawehinmin, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti to demand for the actualization of June 12 mandate freely given to MKO Abiola by the Nigerian people. As the National Coordinator of the Students’ wing of the Campaign Organization of MKO Abiola which was named HOPE 93, Prince Abass organized several peaceful rallies and protest across the country to push for the inauguration of MKO Abiola as duly elected President of Nigeria.

At the inception of the fourth republic in 1999, Prince Ayodeji-Abass joined the Alliance for Democracy. He was appointed by the late Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lam Adesina as the Chairman of Oyo State Youth Council (now Oyo State Agency for Youth Development). In 2011, Governor Abiola Ajimobi  (RIP) appointed him as the Caretaker Chairman of Oluyole Local Government and was also elected as the Secretary of Association of Local Government in Nigeria (ALGON) in Oyo State.

*Honours and Awards*
In 2014, his book *”Grassroots Governance In Perspective”* _my experience in Oluyole local government,Oyo State_ was launched. The book delves into essential areas that are germane to effective grassroots governance and transformation of the third tier government in the country.
He is a recipient of many awards both local and international which includes the grassroots implementer of good initiative award for implementing environmental and people oriented programs at his local government by UNECSCO.

In 2018, he was elected as the Executive Chairman, Oluyole local government Idi-Ayunre and in 2019, he became the Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Oyo state Chapter.
