The much-awaited Lagos-Abuja Super Highway/High-Speed Train Project is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Federal Government in February 2025. The government's goal of improving connection and mobility throughout the nation is in line with this ambitious project, which intends to greatly strengthen Nigeria's transportation infrastructure. AEC-Geofocus, the consortium in charge of the project, said Mr. Mutiu Yinka Idris, Director of Operations, said the Lagos-Abuja Super Highway/High-Speed Train Project is expected to cost about $16 billion. During a media appearance in Ibadan, Idris disclosed this information, giving insight into the size and breadth of this historic infrastructure project.

According to him, the ambitious project will connect the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger over a distance of 500 kilometers. "The project will use a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Maintain (DBFOM) model," he explained. With plans set in stone to begin by February of this year, 2024, the $16 billion project will be led by AEC-Geofocus, a team of engineers, planners, and investors. With primary stations in Lagos and Abuja and eleven intermediate stops, the high-speed train project will have a dual-gauge rail route that can travel up to 250 km/h. With this breakthrough, the trip from Lagos to Abuja should take less than three hours by rail and less than five hours.

Eight lanes, two service lanes, and thirteen tolling stations will make up the roadway. Ten smart cities, one million dwelling units, and an independent power plant are all included in the project's scope. According to Idris, the project is a ground-breaking endeavor that supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's endeavors to improve Nigeria's transportation system. By raising living standards through strategic efforts under President Tinubu's administration, Idris claims the project will greatly increase citizens' economic prosperity. Tinubu's vision includes a variety of ideas that are intended to improve Nigeria and provide its people with a better future.
