After attackers attacked Israeli supporters of the soccer team Maccabi Tel Aviv during Europa League games, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is allegedly deploying two rescue planes to Amsterdam. The incident occurred Thursday evening as supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv were exiting the stadium following the team's losing match against AFC Ajax.
According to accounts, several Israelis were hurt, however, it's unknown how serious their injuries were. The Israeli authorities advised Israelis to stay in their hotels and claimed that they were unable to get in touch with their citizens. Additionally, they have been advised to refrain from displaying any Jewish or Israeli insignia in public.
It is said that two are missing. A few of them claimed that their passports had been taken.
According to an unidentified Israeli who was mentioned by local media Kan 11 News, the attackers were waiting in groups at every corner to locate Jews. "They went at Israeli supporters. They often waited in larger groups around casinos and hotels. Some drove past automobiles and continued to honk close to hotels where Israelis are staying," he continued.
According to the report, the attackers threw firecrackers at individuals and buildings until the police finally stepped in, some 30 to 45 minutes into the attacks. Prime Minister Netanyahu described the incident as "horrifying" and expressed dismay. He went on to say that he takes the situation very seriously and calls on the Dutch government and security services to act against the rioters with determination and promptness.
"To save our compatriots, the prime minister has ordered the immediate dispatch of two rescue aircraft. The Prime Minister's Office stated that the horrific images of the attack on our citizens in Amsterdam will not be ignored.
Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon described the incident as a pogrom that is occurring in Europe in 2024. "These are the real faces of those who support the extreme forms of terrorism that we are battling. He writes, "The Western world must wake up now!" in a post on X.
