The Biden administration just took a major step toward deserting Israel by refusing to veto the most recent UN Security Council resolution urging a cease-fire in Gaza, out of desperation to appease the hard-left faction of the Democratic Party. In addition to demanding an immediate truce through the month of Ramadan, the resolution from the ten non-permanent Security Council members also calls on Hamas to free the approximately 100 Israelis it is still holding captive following its terror attack on October 7. Even if Hamas rejects it, the move increases the pressure on Israel to halt its essential, justifiable, and humanitarian fight against the terror group just as it is about to destroy the terror group's last battalions.
Never mind that Team Biden has cautioned that these resolutions will just make it more difficult to have real discussions on a temporary ceasefire in exchange for the release of hostages; instead, they offer Hamas new optimism that Israel's "friends" will compel it to cease hostilities anyway. The emphasis on Ramadan is blatantly deceptive. During Ramadan, Israel's neighbors who are Islamic states have conducted war, even against other Islamic nations: in 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel, and in 1981, Iran attacked Iraq.
This profanity ought to have been vetoed by Washington. However, this president is powerless to stop using terrorists' propaganda to criticize Israel's actions as being "over the top." True, the Biden administration has stopped more heinous UN resolutions in the past, but instead of criticizing the Democratic Party's growing pro-Hamas caucus—which, regrettably, now includes Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer—it is beginning to back down. Observe its cease-fire proposal, which was made on Friday and was rejected by China and Russia. or the ridiculous "red lines" it is creating around the impending Rafah attack. According to UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Washington abstained on Monday because it disagreed with some parts of the text, notably the resolution's inability to hold Hamas accountable for their crimes on October 7.
How could it not have been sufficient to merit a real "nay"? Recall that Hamas is to blame for the continuing conflict. Not the Jewish state. By releasing the captives it has decided to hold onto, the terrorist organization could have put an end to the conflict months ago. Had Hamas not carried out the largest Jewish killing since the Holocaust, the conflict might never have broken out. Israel is no longer expected to just give up a fight for life to please the left throughout the world.
The fact that Washington has embraced this farce indicates that the upper echelons of the executive branch have been completely corrupted. It is now obvious that a cure is impossible to achieve without political change in November, which makes it both strategically and morally imperative to defeat Biden and the Democrats who support him.
