A well-known actress in Nigeria was detained on suspicion of attempting to bribe a policeman in the state of Kano. Amal Umar allegedly paid an officer 250,000 naira (£137; $175) to get her impounded automobile freed, according to the police. According to her attorney Adama Usman, she first requested money from a police officer and disputes the allegations. Over the past ten years, she has starred in hundreds of films and is well known in the nations that border her own. On social media, Amal, or Kannywood as she is affectionately called by lovers of Kano's film industry, has millions of followers.

Amal's automobile was reportedly confiscated by the authorities more than a year ago because it may have been bought with money obtained via fraud that her partner may have committed. As she believes the Fuska Biyu star was forced, "She gave our officer 250,000 [naira] with a promise to bring more money," Kano police spokesperson Bashir Muhammad said. They will pursue the matter in court.

"Her rights are being abused, that much is clear. We prevailed in the original legal battle when they attempted to associate her with her boyfriend's actions, in which she has no involvement," the attorney said. Four months later, the cops are still hanging onto her automobile, defying court orders. "On this case of attempted bribery they are claiming, we are going to pursue it to the end because she was called to come and collect her car only for things to change," the attorney stated. Amal, 24, was granted bail and released. Ramadan Inuwa, Amal's lover, is reportedly still at large and wanted by the police on suspicion of getting money via deception.
