It was reported that Solanke passed away during his transfer from his rural residence in Ipara Remo, inside the Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan.

He said that since December, he had been in and out of the hospital.

Along with many other things, Solanke was well-known for the Kongi's Harvest, Sango, and Shadow Parties.

Dickson Awolaja, a state assemblyman from Remo North State Constituency, confirmed the death and stated, "I learned of Pa Jimi Solanke's passing not too long ago. Given his excellent contributions to the advancement of our beloved country, his passing is undoubtedly another great loss for us in Remo North and Ogun State as a whole. May peace be upon his soul.

Tinubu expressed his sorrow after learning of Solanke's passing in a statement released on Monday by Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity. Solanke was hailed as "one of the finest of Nigeria's creative artists and bastion of our cherished mores and cultural heritage."

The statement went on, "The President prays for the beloved departed's peaceful repose and condoles with the Solanke family and all those who mourn this terrible loss."
