Weeping erupted at the University of Ibadan's Trenchard Hall, where the remains of killed Professor Opeyemi Ajewole were placed in state for last respects by the University of Ibadan Academic community, friends, family, and relatives of the dead.
Friends, colleagues, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the University of Ibadan Chapter, Prof Ayo Akinwole, President of Senior Staff Club Dr. Bisi Lawuyi, and a representative of the Forestry Association of Nigeria delivered speeches, breaking the silence of the graveyard. Remember that Ajewole, a professor of social and environmental forestry, was killed murdered in his Olororo, Ojo, Ibadan home on Monday evening, 5 June 2023, by unidentified gunmen.
Though the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, berated security officials on Monday for failing to capture the deceased's killers four weeks after the tragedy, saying this speaks volumes about the nation's condition of insecurity.
Dr. T Afolabi, a spokesperson of the Forestry Association of Nigeria, stated that the late Professor Ajewole contributed greatly to the association, sparking their conferences with his distinctive presentations.
He underlined that those who plotted and executed the deceased would also die by gun since the deceased's blood will be repaid.
God despises anybody who sheds innocent blood. Nobody has control over their lives. If a guy is slain, he will be held accountable." Dignitaries at the event include the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Registrar, Mr. J.O. Saliu, Pro.
